A nameplate PENRITH BEACON from a London & North Western Railway Precedent Class 2-4-0 No 2187 built at Crewe as Works No 1914 in April 1875 and named after the stone built beacon or watch house high above the Cumbrian town. The locomotive was rebuilt at Crewe, Works No 3727, in December 1896 as a Renewed Precedent and renumbered 2187. It became LMS 5069 in February 1924 and was scrapped in July 1932. Engraved brass with wax infill, 60¼" long, clearly stamped REBUILT 2/97, on wooden mount. (Postage Band: N/A)
