From the estate of Ron Hooper, M.V.O., A.C.S.M., F.I.M.M. Born in St.Agnes, he graduated from Camborne School of Mines. After a short career mining in the Gold Coast of Ghana he joined the Camborne School of Mines, eventually becoming Senior Lecturer in Surveying. At the same time, he acted as an independent mining engineer and was appointed mineral agent for several Cornish estates including the Duchy of Cornwall, Tregothnan, and the Godolphin Estate (amongst others).
