A CHARLES II CHRIST'S HOSPITAL SHOULDER BADGE. A silvered circular badge, the border pierced with ten holes for attachment, 'Auspicio Carol Secuni Regis 1673' with figures of Arithmetic, Geometry and Astronomy encouraging a blue coat boy. 8.4cm. Eimer 252.
An example of this shoulder badge is included on the web page for Christ's Museum suggesting the badge was worn by boys in the Royal Mathematical School: 'It was established in 1673 for selected Christ's Hospital boys to learn navigation in preparation for a career at sea. ...
