WW1 Distinguished Conduct Medal to 8-10539 C.S. Mjr C.P.G. Dewson 3/S. Staff R., 1899 QSA 4 clasps Cape Colony, Transvaal, Wittebergen, South Africa 1901 to 6951 Pte C. Dewson Vol Coy S. Staff Regt, 1915 Star trio to 10539 W.O. Cl 2 C.P.G. Dewson S. Staff R. (Sjt on star) nearly extremely fine or better, swing mounted as worn, with matching set of swing mounted miniatures. Charles Pelham Greenwood Dewson's DCM was announced in the London Gazettes dated 1st January and 13th February 1917 "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He has performed consistent good work throughout, and has at all times under fire set a splendid example of courage and determination."
Sold with boxed silver hallmarked West Bromwich Corporation Medal to S/M C.P. Dewson D.C.M. in appreciation of the distinguished service rendered by him during the war. With attractive illuminated wallet souvenir to "Company Sergeant Major Charles Pelham Greenwood Dewson to commemorated the award of the DCM from his colleagues and admirers at Manifoldia" dated 3/2/17.
Also with scroll granting the freedom of the Borough of West Bromwich to C. Dewson in volunteering fro active service in South Africa, 2 letters inviting him to a banquet in his honour, a Special Company Order of No 1 Volunteer Coy with the CO bidding farewell and an 8th Division Special Divisional Order praising the efforts of No 1 Vol Coy in South Africa. With tin containing cap badges, rank badges, German 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class, bullet trench art knife etc.
Having served in the Boer War, he re-enlisted in the South Staffs Regt 25/8/14, landed in France 14/7/15, discharged due to wounds 7/10/16 and issued a Silver War Badge No 83510 (this missing). With copied MIC, LGs, SWB roll and QSA rolls. Offered on behalf of the family, never before on the market. (See Lot 171 for a German pickelhaube he brought back from WW1) (See photo) (½B)
