Star Lot: A magnificent original Cóilín Murray (Dublin, b.1945) oil on canvas painting titled "Haws, Endangered Species" featuring a dynamic allover composition of foliage rendered expressive gestural and impasto brushstrokes, in a palette of magentas, violets, rich blues and deep greens. Signed and titled to verso. Murray is a well renowned Irish artist whose work has fetched into the high hundreds at Whyte's. For smaller examples.

Born in Dublin, Cóilín Murray was one of the last students of Prof Maurice MacGonigal, President of the RHA. Murray is a highly regarded painter and printmaker. He made his way to West Cork via the National College of Art & Design in Dublin, where he was Head of the Printmaking Department, arriving in Ballydehob in the 1983 and finding there a flourishing centre of creativity.
