AN EXTREMELY RARE CHINESE HAN DYNASTY JADE BI DISC of unusual spiralised form. 7.5 cm diameter. Note: A "bi disc" is a flat, circular jade disc with a hole in the centre, originating from ancient Chinese culture, often considered a ceremonial object used in worship and associated with high social status, with some believing it symbolized heaven due to its shape and the jade material; the exact purpose of the bi disc remains somewhat mysterious, but they were frequently found in the tombs of nobility and emperors.
