James Abbot McNeill Whistler (American, 1834 - 1903), Black Lion Wharf, signed and dated 1859 in the plate, etching on laid paper with 'DEDB' Beehive watermark, plate 15 x 22.5 cm, sheet 17.5 x 25 cm, framed and glazed 34 x 49.5 cm Hinged to the mount along the upper edge. Surface dirt is visible to sheet, particularly to the upper left corner and margin (see additional photo). There are small scattered spots of foxing throughout. There is a soft horizontal crease running along the upper portion of the sheet. Light acidification to the sheet.
