BRYNMAWR FURNITURE - PAIR OF DINING CHAIRS. A pair of oak dining chairs with vertical splats and drop in rush seats, supported on fluted legs. Unmarked, 82cms high *Brynmawr Furniture Makers Ltd was a furniture manufacturing company set up in the midst of the Great Depression in the United Kingdom as part of the Brynmawr Experiment in Brynmawr, Wales. Following the General Strike in 1926, Brynmawr had been particularly badly affected and was left with high levels of unemployment. Brynmawr Furniture Makers factory was set up as part of Quaker-led effort to tackle the issues starting in 1929. It was known for well-made utilitarian designs but closed in 1940.
Both in solid order, some loss of colour in places (water, sun), some wear and marks in places including the legs, one block underneath has a split.
