** PLYMOUTH (DEVON) - MILL PRISON HOSPITAL - COVER EX FRANCE WITH OVAL "TRANSPORT OFFICE..." MARK; 17 Feb. 1799 EL (typed transcript; small piece lost with seal and some internal stains and neatly closed tear in address) from "St. Brieux" (from two friends with family news etc.) to "Citizen Cor, French Officer, Prisoner of War, in Mill Prison Hospital, near Plymouth, Devonshire" with a very fine "21/ST. BRIEUX" on the front and a partly fine London double oval "TRANSPORT OFFICE/[Crown]/G.R./PRISONERS OF WAR" mark (overstruck by horseshoe "PLYMOUTH" transit mark) on the top flap with 3 May London cds nearby. Charged "8[d]" inland rate with prepaid French "11" rate on the flap. Cor had been captured on the privateer 'Le Triton' (on 17 July 1798 by the British frigate Melpomene in the English Channel).
