Martin Martin - The binding in very rough condition, with upper cover detached and rear cover splitting from spine at hinge. Multiple losses to the marbled paper-covered boards. Leather spine is tattered, with many losses. Armorial bookplate of John Mackenzie of Dunvegan pasted to inside front cover (this bookplate is present in the other St. Kilda volume also). Text is complete, concluding on page 158 with Errata. Map and bird engraving however are not present. Water staining significantly effecting pages 145 to conclusion. Pages generally browned, lightly foxed and marked throughout. Occasional faint pencil annotations. Small holes to pages 88 and 89 (not affecting text). A tear to page 13 approx. 1.5cm in length at top edge. Occasional minor tears to edges elsewhere. Dark spots affecting text of pages 8 and 9. Some fading to text on page 66.
A Description of St. Kilda - binding very tatty, with large losses to spine and covers partially detached. Title page significantly browned. pages otherwise, fairly clean. Creasing to some pages. Page 15 with a substantial loss to edge (not effecting text). Minor tears and losses to page edges throughout. Some dog-earring. Fore-edges are of a generally rough, deckle character. Text is complete, concluding on page 48, "Finis". Final page also very discoloured and grubbier than the rest. There are no plates/maps present within this volume.
Journal through Several Counties in Scotland - binding very tatty, with losses to spine and covers detaching at foot of spine. Tears and bumps to all edges. Top page edges very dirty. Pages throughout are foxed and warped, likely as a result of historic damp. Page 15 torn significantly. Pages are deckle-edged and are dog-eared and minorly torn at edges in places. A portion of page 84 lacking (not effecting text). A hole to page 100. Ink marks to page 101. Page 166 torn to top edge. Pages 189 through 192, 201 through 204, 213 through 216 and 285 through 288 are inserted loose. Pages 225 through 228 hanging by one thread. Text is complete, concluding on page 294.
