WRECK MAIL - "SAVED FROM THE WRECK OF THE CLEOPATRA": 15 August 1862 folded 4 page Auditor's Report by CC Hoffman, Treasurer of the Protestant Episcopal Church Mission at Cape Palmas, Liberia (expected faults and staining for recovered mail, no wrapper or envelope) probably to USA, with fine strike of the "SAVED.FROM.THE.WRECK / OF.THE.CLEOPATRA" hs. Hoggarth & Gwynn (2003) record only two covers recovered from the Cleopatra. The ship was totally lost on the Shebar River off Sierra Leone with all the crew but one. A rare ship wreck item. Cross Reference: CRASH/WRECK MAIL, LIBERIA
