Property of a gentleman - a Chinese finely carved carnelian agate figure of Guanyin seated on lotus with a standing egret to reverse, Qing Dynasty, late 19th / early20th century, 5ins. (12.7cms.) high, on carved & red stained fitted ivory stand. Provenance – The Fryers Collection of Chinese Art, sold in these rooms 13th May 2017. Dr Gordon Fryers (1922-2008) and Dr Rosemary Fryers (1922-1994) were both medical doctors working in Singapore. They formed their collection in the mid 20th century, buying many of the pieces from leading auction houses and dealers in London. This lot is number 247 in the collection, purchased 1st January 1973, Rene Kitchen Ltd., London (£ 95).
