GIRDLESTONE JOHN. Miscellanea Curiosa. 10 manuscript volumes. Each volume, 8" x 5.5", with approx. 350 well written pages enhanced by (maybe circa 500/600 in total) plates & text illustrations from engravings, many cleverly presented as cut-outs. Covers an enormous range of subjects, topographical, historical, biographical, science, engineering, transport, folk-lore, social history etc. Half calf, brittle with some wear & rubbing (vol. 1 with back det. etc), contents generally good, clean & very legible, a very substantial manuscript achievement, each vol. carefully indexed at the end. N.d. but prob. early 1840s. Each front board bears a label "John Girdlestone", it is assumed that he was the writer of these books.
