EARLY USAGE 2-RING "MAURITIUS/POST OFFICE" DATESTAMP IN RED ON INDIA LETTER TO GB: 19 June 1838 EL (in French; some tone spots) carried by the "Sesostris" from Port Louis to London (2 Oct. backstamp) with ms "1/8" charge on the front. Reverse with red boxed "INDIA LETTER/SOUTHAMPTON" & mostly fine 2-ring "MAURITIUS/POST OFFICE" datestamp in red; early usage for this cds which was issued at the beginning of that same year.
