A GWR cabside numberplate, 9005, from a 9000 Earl Class 4-4-0 built in September 1936 using the original frames of the earlier Bulldog Class 4-4-0 No 3413 and replacing the scrapped Duke Class 4-4-0 No 3255. Because of their ancestry they were usually known as Dukedogs. Numbered 3205 when built, it was named EARL OF DEVON but lost its name the following year when its nameplates were transferred to Castle Class 4-6-0 No 5048. It was renumbered 9005 in July 1946. A Cambrian lines engine, it was allocated to Machynlleth before finishing its days at Oswestry from where it was withdrawn ln July 1959 and cut up at Swindon Works. Cast brass, the front repainted, the back marked Oswestry. (Postage Band: N/A)
