OBTAINING THEIR RELEASE; Very fine 17 Sept. 1804 EL (typed transcript) from "Havre" to Paris with fine "74/LE HAVRE" and "4" charge on the front; from a POW's wife to her father asking him to help her obtain her husband's exchange for one "Capitaine Joseph Tuckle pris sur son retour de Limmerick a Londres commandant le navire la Diligence pris en Janvier par La Souere de St. Malo" who was a POW in Verdun at the time. Plus very fine 15 May 1809 EL from POW merchant ship Captain "Martin Streig" in "Verdun" to the Minister of War in Paris with v. fine "P.53.P/VERDUN/SUR-MEUSE" on the front and "18c" on the flap; Streig - a "native of Dantzig" - asks to be returned to his home in Danzig after his ship had been taken by a French privateer and he was taken to Brest after which he was taken to Verdun as a prisoner. n(2 covers)Cross Reference: FRANCE, MILITARY - P.O.W.
