A 'near complete' set of the 548 soccer comics from the Scorcher; Scorcher & Score; and Tiger and Scorcher series, dating from January 1970 to 1981, featuring cartoon strips of such favourites as Billy’s boots, Nipper, Hot Shot Haimish, and, post Tiger amalgamation, Roy of the Rovers and Johnny Cougar. This collection features the first editions of Scorcher, Scorcher & Score and Tiger & Scorcher (see our first photo) – all individually collectable in their own right, but it represents almost an entire run of the publications of which there were 77 issues of Scorcher from 10 January 1970 to 26 June 1971; 171 Scorcher and SCORE from 3 July 1971 to 5 October 1974; and 300 TIGER and Scorcher from 12 October 1974 to 30 August 1980. Industrial action prevented publication of three issues in December 1978 and five in May and June 1980. The A4 comics, which publisher IPC called papers to distinguish from more child-orientated publications, come in 23 arch-leaver files with the later collection all in individual plastic sleeves. Most are in good condition. Some have a few words written in pen and one has damage to the bottom middle edge. As well as realistic and comedic football themed stories, the comics contained factual items about British professional football, and advertisements not only for contemporary toys, games and confectionery, but others aimed at an older readership.
