58108 Sergeant Patrick M Fay , Royal Irish Constabulary : An extremely rare Constabulary Medal / ' Reward of Merit ' , dated 1920 . Together with extensive provenance notes . The Constabulary Medal was awarded for conspicuous gallantry ( usually against armed assailants ) from 1842 to 1922 , the majority being awarded in the years 1920 - 1921 . Sergeant Patrick M Fay was awarded the medal for his part in the defence of the RIC Barracks , Timoleague , Co. Cork on 25th February 1920 . Along with five colleagues , he held off an IRA attack led by General Sean Hales TD .
