Decorative Arts: The Starbuck family of Nantucket; a painted plaster aftercast of Benjamin Franklin, after the original wax portrait by Isaac Gosset. Card frame and convex glass cover, and a hand written inscription to the rear 'Dr Franklin modeled (sic) from the life'. 10.8cm by 8.2cm. Part of the Starbuck archive being sold through this saleroom. The Starbuck family were prominent in the anti-slavery movement both in the UK and the USA. Having been involved in the founding of Nantucket, members of the family emigrated to Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, after the American Revolutionary War and continued their successful whaling business.
CONDITION REPORT. Intact but several cracks, mostly to the painted ground, but one following the hairline.
