A THREE CLASP QUEEN's SOUTH AFRICA MEDAL TO THE FIELD ARTILLERY. A Queen's South Africa Medal with South Africa 1901, Cape Colony and Orange Free State clasps, named to 10625 B.Q.M. Sgt C.E. Mabbott 68th Bty R.F.A. Records suggest that Battery Quartermaster Sergeant Charles Everard Mabbott was born c.1860, he attested for the Royal Artillery at the age of 19, and was recommended for a Long service and good conduct medal on the 1st January 1898. Married to Ruth Marian Howtois at Colchester Registry Office in June 1883, and following her death he married Harriet Sunley in 1899. His Cape Colony and Orange Free State clasps are confirmed to the roll, and all three clasps are recorded on his service record. With extensive copied service record which lists service in India, South Africa as well as the UK, in particular serving with the Chitral Relief Forces in 1895 as well as in South Africa in 1899. He will have been entitled to an Indian War Medal with Relief of Chitrall clasp. He seems to have been re-engaged in 1891 and discharged on the 28th October 1901 with his character noted as 'Exemplary'. *CR Poor state with significant scuffing to both sides and rim.
