Star Lot : A delightful large original watercolour and gouache on paper painting by R. G. Sellar and dated to 1983. Depicts a rural french farmhouse in a wintery countryside. Sellar has a good auction history, with his lino prints making €340 at Whyte's.
Born in Scotland and brought to Belfast aged 6 when his father became a ship engine designer in Harland and Wolff, Robert Gordon studied in Belfast collge of Art and became Art Advisor first for the County Londonderry Education Committee then North East Education and Library Board. Versatile in a variety of mediums, oils, acrylic, watercolour, pastel, stained glasss and calligraphy. Sellar is best known for his postmark designs and intricate lino cuts. A number of his works are held in the Flowerfield Arts Centre in Portstewart, which he donated. He also designed the stained glass windows for Castlerock Presbyterian Church.
