2 interesting Iranian pre-Islamic Revolution banknotes, 100 & 200 Rials with overprinting, The Islamic Revolution of 1979 overthrew the Shah of Persia in Iran. The authorities wanted to eliminate all reminders of the Shah but were not in a position to immediately replace all the banknotes in circulation. The solution was the take remaining stocks of banknotes and obliterate the images of the Shah which appeared on the front and in the watermark area until new issues could be introduced, the 200 rials note in this lot has a non-damaged watermark
