A .58” Colt made Springfield model 1861 percussion rifled musket, converted for use as a carbine, barrel 26” dated “1864” at the breech, with eagle stamp on the nipple bolster, and with 2 leaf folding rearsight; the lock dated 1864 and marked “U.S./ COLTS PT. F-A MFG CO/ HARTFORD.CT”; converted to half stock with ramrod rib beneath the barrel, with regulation pattern steel mounts including single barrel band, the butt plate tang stamped “U.S”. GWO & C (slight wear, the front ramrod pipe detached but present, the steel ramrod a replacement). Colt was contracted to supply 37,500 Springfield rifles in 1864. £500-600
