AN ASHANTEE MEDAL 1873-74 TO H.M.S. RATTLESNAKE. An Ashantee Medal without clasps named to G. Head Shipwt. H.M.S. Rattlesnake 73-74. George Head was born in Stoke, Devon on the 20th July 1838, joining the Royal Navy on the 3rd July 1859 giving his trade as Shipwright. Although his character was generally good he spent 28 days in Bodmin jail 7th May 3rd June 1879 rejoining H.M.S. Indus after which his character was indifferent and was discharged ashore as objectionable 26th June 1879. This is one of 295 such medals awarded to the men of H.M.S. Rattlesnake. Mounted for display with copied research.
