After a design by Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins (1807-1894), an unusual gilt metal combination inkwell (button release to access the inkwell) set with a central compass, a coiled cobra surmounted with a putto figure, stands approx. 9" high (snake is missing two stones on cowl and possibly something missing from the top of the snake)
