This map is based on Sanson’s 1650 map, but Du Val added a number of place names. This is particularly apparent in the Cape, which reflects the changing commercial importance of the area at this time. The newly added names include Tafel Bay, I da Fera, B. de Saldagne, C. Falso, C. de Infante, and Beauport on the east coast. In the upper cartouche is a simple key for royal kingdom, bishopric, seaport, cape, island, port and river.
