Rifle - an extremely interesting French Gras Carbine M1874, 11mm. Round barrel 19", brass furniture, full stocked with original ramrod. In GWO and condition. Polished wooden stock with a brass museum plaque stating "Bolivar" Venezuelan Gunboat Trinidad 9/12/02". This one of two identical Carbines from a museum collection. Story behind the plaque as follows: The Venezuelan navy attempted to run guns into Trinidad. the British Navy blockaded Trinidad from the 9th-12th December 1902. The Bolivar was engaged and captured by HMS Charybdis of the Particular Service Squadron. Her cargo of guns were confiscated and Boliva was put into service under the British Flag. Obsolete Calibre, No licence required.
