Five large fans c 1890’s, the first of owls in flight, accompanied by smaller birds, the cream gauze leaf mounted on lightly incised bone sticks; a fan of beige cotton printed with birds and flowers, the slender wood sticks painted in gold and silvered; a third fan with cream gauze mounted on shaped bone sticks, painted with clematis in white and mauve; a black gauze and black machine lace fan, the leaf mounted on lightly incised wood sticks, the gauze painted in strong ginger and yellow with dahlias; and a fifth fan, the cream gauze leaf painted with young people at leisure on a beach, contemplating a paddle, signed F de Varaliola (5)
The owl fan is almost completely split on the centre fold, the lower guard is missing the top section; the bird fan lacks the lower guard. The third fan has 2 repairs to the upper guard, and one to the lower, plus some small brown marks, the fifth fan has several splits to the leaf.
