VERY RARE PAIR OF MAURITIUS "Returned Letter" WRAPPERS WITH ORIGINAL CONTENTS TO INDIA: 26 Dec. 1855 & 19 Jan. 1856 pair of envs. complete with contents & "Returned Letter./ Dead Letter Office,/Mauritius." wrappers with both having framed "CALCUTTA/STEAM LETTER/Bearing" ds's & both unusually dated & endorsed "Not found / Return to London" despite Pipon Bell & Co. being based in Mauritius. One also having gone via Madras where it was endorsed on the reverse "Forwarded by Mess's Oysnes & Co.(?)" & had red boxed "MADRAS/G.P.O." ds applied. Quite a remarkably rare & attractive pair.
