1994 Royal Mint Trial £2 coin set in presentation pack as part of a small collection to include the Royal Mint Coinage Review of 1994 and the subsequent introduction of the new £2 and 50p in 1997. The set demonstrates the stages of mintage of the coin with unpunched outer blank, central insert blank, 2-coin set with punched outer ring planchet with edge lettering and centre insert planchet and finally the finished trial piece. The accompanying literature gives a great insight into the process of coin design and specification options, and finishes with the resulting introduction of the smaller 50p coin and bi-metallic £2 in 1997. A very interesting set.
