Joan Miro (1893-1983) and John Piper (1903-1992), stencil on glass paper, Sans Titre (1937), from Signature 7, Curwen Press 1937, mounted, 24.5cm x 16cm, For this famous stencil Piper used exactly the same brand of glass paper that Miro had used for the original painting. Later Piper wrote how Oliver Simon of Curwen had “encouraged me to reproduce a Miro which had been painted on glass paper, real glass paper, and bound it into Signature.” Only 750 copies were ever printed, using Curwen Press’s unique hand-made version of the French pochoir process, but there is no record of how many were actually sold
