A model 5584 compound monocular microscope by Carl Zeiss of Jena, late 19th century, the 6.25 inch lacquered brass main tube with single lens nosepiece, hand pulled coarse focus adjustment, micrometer screw fine focus adjustment and double sided mirror, engraved maker's name and model number to foot, contained within a fitted mahogany case with stamped model number, containing two 1/10" immersion lenses, one by R & J Beck, the other by M. Pillischer, with two further lenses, eyepieces, and a double lens holder, the case 14.5cm W x 10cm D x 31cm H
