Player's - an original piece of detailed mixed media artwork, completed by artist Lance Cattermole for the set of 50 cigarette card series 'Military Uniforms of the British Empire Overseas' issued by John Player & Sons in 1938. Featuring the card 'The B.S.A Police (Native Askari)'. Mounted and measuring approximately 42 cm x 30 cm including the mount.
Lance Cattermole (1898 - 1992) was a painter who studied at Central School of Arts and Crafts. Born in Ireland, Cattermole came from a long line of artists, his grandfather George illustrated Charles Dickens 'The Old Curiosity Shop'. He studied under Philip Wilson Steer and Henry Tonks at the Slade. Cattermole showed with RA, ROI of which he was made a member in 1938, RBA and widely in the provinces.
