Charles Walter SIMPSON (1885-1971) Unloading The Catch, St Ives, c1923 Oil on canvas, signed, further oil study to verso with signature to stretcher, 78 x 102cm, framed 92 x 117cm This work is from Simpson's 'Herring Season Series', 1923-24, a series of paintings documenting the fishing industry in St Ives, painted from his Shore Studio on the Warf. His painting titled The Herrings Season: from my Studio Window was included in the 1924 Royal Academy exhibition. From a private St Ives collection, it is highly likely that this work was purchased by the vendor's grandfather directly from the artist in the early 20th Century This bright and well-presented work is in excellent, professionally cleaned condition.
