Boar War interest - A .577 obsolete calibre Martini Henry rifle by Westley Richards 32.5inch sighted barrel fitted with ramp and ladder rear sights, the barrel stamped HENRY RIFLING forward of the sight and WESTLEY RICHARDS behind the sight, stamped MADE SPECIALLY for ZAR to the right side and WESTLEY RICHARDS & Co. to the left, further dated 1896 just forward of the breech, full stock with regulation steel mounts, steel cleaning rod. Clean bore. The stock incised: Transvaal Rifle. Surrendered by a burgher at Kronstadt May 1900 to Civil-Surgeon F.G. Engelbach (attached 2nd Cavalry Brig) afterwards killed at Noigedatch Transvaal Dec 13th 1900 attending wounded under heavy fire, and having himself been already wounded in the hand. * Provenience: Accompanied by Antony Cribb Ltd Arms and Armour Auctions catalogue, Tuesday 4 October 2016, Lot 102.
