A PANORAMIC PHOTOGRAPH 'PEACE THANKSGIVING PRETORIA JUNE 8TH 1902' BY HORACE NICHOLLS. An extensive panoramic photograph titled 'Peace Thanksgiving Pretoria June 8th 1902' signed Horace W. Nicholls. The image showing the thanksgiving service held in Church Square, Pretoria when some 6,000 troops attended a service led by the Archbishop of Cape Town and the Bishop of Zululand. Lord Kitchener awarded medals including a number of VCs during the service and the proceedings came to an end when he led the crowd in three cheers for King Edward VII.
Horace Nicholls (1867 - 1941) established himself as a photographer in Johannesburg during the Boer War and went on to take many important photographs during the First World War.
