MV. Mitera Marigo A builders brass dedication plate Recovered by divers from the wreck of the MV. Mitera Marigo. This Liberian registered vessel was towed into Falmouth Roads whilst on passage from Mormugao, Goa, to Rotterdam, having been in collision with the German registered ss.Fritz Rhysen. The tug ss.Englishman, got her secured to a buoy in Carrick Roads, but that night she filled and sank. The crew abandoned ship in their own boats, and a customs officer was literally stepping off the ship’s rail when she went down. She was later reduced to scrap by explosives, her cargo of iron ore worthless. The legend reads, ‘Through this appointment, from the shipbuilder of this shore, the Captain and overall Commander of Holy Lemos dedicate this ship.’ The plate measures 13cms x 9.5cms.
