Attributed to Peter Laszlo Peri (Hungarian, 1899-1967), a figural group modelled as a mother and child embracing, the figures worked in coloured concrete and set to a brick patterned terracotta ground, the underside with wire hanging loop to one corner, suggesting that this may be a maquette for one of Peri's large scale wall mounted sculptures, unsigned, the base 39.5cm x 39cm, the figures 22cm high (hairline crack to base)
NOTE: Peter Laszlo Peri was a highly regarded 20th century artist best known for his "The Sunbathers" wall sculpture created for the Festival of Britain in 1951. Large scale works similar to this piece include "The Preacher" on the wall of Forest Gate Methodist Church, and "Man of the World" on the wall of Devonshire House at the University of Exeter.
