RARE VALENTINE "OCEAN PENNY POSTAGE" 2nd DESIGN (PRINTING ON BACK) ENVELOPE USED VERY LATE; Remarkable 16 Jan. 1871 usage of the rare "J. VALENTINE, DUNDEE" pictorial "OCEAN/ONE/PENNY/POSTAGE" propaganda envelope (Turner State 2, of which only 10 GB usages have been recorded; very slight dusting) to "Eyam, Derbyshire" with 1d Red (pl.100) just tied (at top left) by a partly very fine SHEFFIELD/700 Duplex, having the unusual all on reverse Ocean Penny Postage design (with Trade, Peace & Universal Brotherhood wording as well) by James Valentine. An exceptionally late usage of this 1853/59 envelope! From an 'original' find and not seen on the philatelic market before. [Plus two similar plain 1870/72 1d Red envs. from the same find, both from Sheffield to the same Eyam address, but showing "EYAM" backstamps; it seems that the Eyam P.O. decided not to backstamp the Valentines cover as it would have spoiled the design!] Seemingly one of the latest recorded usages of any Ocean Penny Postage cover. Exhibition Quality. Cross Reference: PICTORIALS, PRINTED, YORKSHIRE, DERBYSHIRE, TRANSATLANTIC MAIL
