Automobilia: a scarce mid-20th century 'Nix Over Six' F. W. Woolworths staff enamel car badge - of lozenge form, chrome with red and orange enamel, the reverse stamped 'A 'Taut' Product', 13.2cm long, in very good condition, in lidded plain card box.
* This badge is believed to have been issued to senior staff at Woolworths and the 'Nix Over Six' design represents their company motto of the WW2 period, 'Nothing over Sixpence'. At that time the company ran a fund raising effort to purchase two Spitfire fighter aircraft for the war effort, one funded by staff with donations from their weekly pay packets, and the other by the senior management and directors. The company achieved its aim and the two Spitfires were named 'Nix Over Six Primus' and 'Nix Over Six Secundus'.
