1900 POSTAL STATIONERY CARD RE. 'FASHODA INCIDENT': 1899 Provisional postcard surcharged "4 millemes" dated 22 Jan. 1900 written "On a gunboat - off Omdurman" addressed to Southwold, Suffolk. Content inc. "Nearly 100 in the shade. We are in the gunboat Kitchener wint to Fashoda in & am writing at the table where he arranged it all with Marchand" This refers to the 'Fashoda Incident' of Sept. 1898 when a French expedition under Colonel Marchand briefly occupied the town of Fashoda on the White Nile initiating a diplomatic incident. Card is creased.
