A 19th century Japanese vase of flattened oval form with applied dragon around the short neck, painted in polychrome enamels with birds and flowers (kacho-ga) and warriors on horseback within the oval panels against the black ground  with various low relief geometric patterns, the base with abbreviated Satsuma mark, Meiji period (1868-1912) 18 cm high to/w another early 20th century Japanese Satsuma Moriage vase painted with floral designs and gilt highlights, the base signed 'Kusube' 18.5 cm high (2)

The oval vase has several chips to the foot, the rim and the dragon, both with wear to enamels and gilding
