Barrett Browning, Elizabeth. A collection of manuscript poems, and other items. The reference numbers are those from The Brownings: A Research Guide, where they are described as being in a private collection.
a. The Enchantress, fair copy, revised. Canto 1. stanzas 1-15 in the hand of Mary Moulton- Barrett (mother of Elizabeth), watermark W Thomas 1820; title, stanzas 16-24 apparently in the hand of EBB, watermark 1818. 13pp., 4to. [DO231.1] First published in The Enchantress and Other Poems, PP., 1913
b. The Enchantress (another copy), transcript, revised, apparently in the hand of MMB, with revisions and corrections by EBB. All pages with same heraldic watermark: a coat of arms including a bugle with separate initials. 13pp., 4to. [DO231.2]
c. The Enchantress, Canto 2, stanza 8, line 6 - stanza 15, and includes stanza 24, all apparently by EBB. No watermark. 5pp. 4to., including wrapper [DO233.1]
d. The Enchantress, transcript by MMB of Canto 1, 14 stanzas, and Canto 2, 23 stanzas, with pencil revisions probably in the hand of EBB, dated May 13th 1822. Watermark W Thomas 1820 (note this is the same paper as MMB used for stanzas 1 - 15 in DO231.1). 9pp., small folio. [DO233.2]
e. (An Essay on Mind). Lines 158 - 234, beginning The Young Thucydides, in the hand of MMB. Watermark C Penny London, 4pp., 4to. [DO251.1] First published in An Essay on Mind, With Other Poems, 1826.
f. The African A Poem in two Cantos, transcript in the hand of MMB with revisions, corrections and possibly half of p. 18 by EBB, 25pp, folio, p. 5 in 4to., watermarks RN 1810 and J Lloyd 1816. This MS published in Works of Elizabeth Barrett Browning, 5, 392-408. [DOO15.1]
g. "The Druidical Tumulus at Pornic", watercolour. possibly by Robert Browning, father of the poet, with further sketch of two buildings on verso, 11.5cms x 18.4cms. Pornic is in South Eastern Brittany.
h. Notes in two unknown hands, one commenting on a poem, the other relating to a play about the conquest of Peru. 3 and a half pp., 8vo.
i. Letter addressed to "My Lord", unfinished draft probably written by a female Whig
attacking the government, the nobility and Lord Castlereagh. From Hope End, dated Oct. 1817. 3 and a qtr. pp., folio
