Thomas Spinks (1847-1927) - riverbank scene with sheep titled 'No 1 On the Conway', oil on canvas, in original gilt frame and glazed. Canvas signed T. SPINKS and dated 1884 lower right, the back of the canvas has holograph inscription 'No 1 On The Conway T Spinks' with another title 'Vale View' crossed through. The canvas is stamped prepared by Winsor and Newton. Visible dimensions of canvas 34cm x 49cm, overall dimensions of frame 49cm x 64cm. The painting was acquired by the vendor's family in the 1940s. It is understood to be in the original frame the width of which was sympathetically reduced many years ago. Condition - the painting is in very good condition. The frame is overall sound but some a/f - fine shrinkage cracks in the gesso consistent with age, the occasional small loss or chip. The glass has a chip in top left corner. The back of the frame has masking tape over the retaining pins and a fold of paper is helping keep the canvas aligned in the frame.
