A 1788 PATTERN LIGHT CAVALRY OFFICER'S SWORD AND SCABBARD BY THOMAS GILL OF BIRMINGHAM. With a 76 cm curved single edged pointed blade with broad and narrow fullers. Engraved with GR monogram, display of arms and other motifs, marked to the ricasso 'Tho. Gill Birmingham' and 'Warranted never to fail'. With langets to both sides and small quillon, straight guard and wire wound shagreen grip. In steel scabbard with twin ring suspension. 91 cm overall.
Thomas Gill made swords between 1776-1826.

Sword with area of surface degradation, also to the tip, scabbard with wear/damage to the toe. Otherwise a nice example.
