Philip James (Philippe-Jacques) de Loutherbourg (1740-1812) British. ‘Caricature of a Man with an enormous Chin with his Hat balanced on the back of his head and his hands thrust into his Coat’, Pen and Sepia Wash, Mounted, Unframed, 6.65” x 4.5” (16.2 x 11.5cm) Notes: This is a study for his final work ‘From Wales’ in the artist’s series of etchings ‘Caricatures of the English' (1775). The figure was used again in the painting ‘Landscape with a Storm’ (also known as ‘The Rainbow’) 1778.
