A London & North Western Railway locomotive nameplate, ALFRED FLETCHER, CREWE WORKS, MAY 1913, from the Claughton Class 4-6-0 built to Bowen Cooke's design for heavy express passenger work, LNWR No 1327. It was the test engine for the fitting of Caprotti valve gear leading to 10 Claughtons receiving this valve gear and one of twenty of the Class fitted with larger boilers, in December 1928. It became LMS No 5908 and was withdrawn in September 1936. Alfred Fletcher was appointed a Director (Liverpool) of the LNWR in 1875. He was also a Director of the Dundalk, Newry & Greenore Railway and was appointed Chairman of the newly formed Passenger Traffic Committee in 1891. He died in 1919. The plate is 73" long.
