FIRE OF LONDON YEAR WARRANT SIGNED BY "[DUKE OF] ALBEMARLE", THE MAN WHO RESTORED CHARLES II; Fine 1 Nov. 1666 manuscript warrant - to supply "two bundells of matches" (for match lock rifles) to Maritime Regiment Captain Hercules Lowe, signed by "Albemarle", the Cromwellian General (George Monck) who was largely responsible for negotiating the return of King Charles II to the throne in 1660. Written at "the Cockpitt" in London (where the Duke lived) which had survived the great Fire of London just three months earlier. Rare and attractive early Marines item.
