Of Goole interest; a Victorian tracing of the Township of Hook, Parish of Snaith, in the Weft Riding of the County of York, belonging to ..... Lords of the Manor, surveyed in 1768, copied in 1897, showing who owned/worked the land, 120 x 85cm, various copies of old maps of the area, two Theatre Royal, Goole wall posters, pre 1915, framed and other copy Goole related images.
The Theatre Royal was opened in 1841, located on Adam Street at the corner with Cross Street. Inside the auditorium, the proscenium was 18 feet wide, and there was decent sized stage. Seating was provided in orchestra stalls and a balcony, with slips along the side-walls. In the early-1900’s, it was screening films as part of the variety program.
In 1915, the Theatre Royal was damaged by a German bombing raid by Zeppelin airships. It then suffered damage in a gale and was never re-opened. Standing derelict for many years, it was re-roofed at some stage and later became a public hall, a warehouse and a garage.
