UTAGAWA KUNISADA/ UTAGAWA TOYOKUNI III (JAPANESE, 1786-1865), AN EARLY 19TH CENTURY EDO PERIOD JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINT, by artist Utagawa Kunisada (1786-1865) also known as Utagawa Toyokuni III, this is a section of a larger scene titled ‘Toyokuni III (Kunisada) Taigyourou’. Dimensions: 36.5cm x 25cm approx. Condition: as photographed. More about the artist: a renowned artist of his time, Utagawa Kunisada was an apprentice of the first Toyokuni, he took over the name in 1844. Known for his painted actor portraits that conveyed the excitement of the stage, known as ‘Kunisada’. His popularity can be observed by the volume of his work.
